TRAINING & CERTIFICATION Consistent, high-quality training is essential to learning and using the CANS and other TCOM tools. The pages linked below provide information for those seeking to get certified as well as those looking for ongoing training in and around Alameda County.
STEP 1: Log in and make sure you're on the screen that says, "Praed Foundation Collaborative Training Website (TCOM)" (top left):
STEP 2: Start from the person ("Learner") icon on the left and click on "Bundled Courses".
STEP 3: Click on the title of your bundle, “California, Behavioral Health- Alameda”:
STEP 4: Choose the course you wish to take. If you're not already registered ("Enrolled" on the left), click the button to register/enroll and then come back to the same screen and click on the course you want to take. >>> The course you select should align w/ the CANS tool your agency uses (e.g., CA IP CANS, Alameda CANS 0-24).*:
*CANS tool: It's best to certify in the CANS tool you plan to use the most, so you have access to supporting materials like the CANS manual (valuable for testing and real life application) and are familiar w/ the items. That said, once you're certified in one CANS tool, you're certified in all CANS variations (e.g., CA IP CANS, Alameda CANS 0-24)! The TCOM principles are the same across the CANS tools, even if some of the items are different. Use the CANS tool identified by your agency.
Step 5: Now that you've selected your course, you'll find training modules, an optional practice exam, a required certification exam, and supplemental materials (e.g., CANS rating sheet & manual). Move through the training modules and use the quizzes to check your understanding.
(Don't like training modules and quizzes? Attend a live training and skip these steps.)
Select "Go to course details" (top left) for another view.
Note: If you're certifying in the Alameda CANS 0-24, you'll see more than one certification exam option (varied by vignette client age range). You only need to pass one certification exam in order to be certified across the age ranges. Toggle over each option for details and select the certification exam of your choice.
We wish you well during training and testing! Once you begin the certification exam, you'll have 2 hours to complete it. A passing score is .70 and above, and you can retest as needed. Take your time, use the manual, and read the vignette carefully. Once certified, you can download your certificate and share it w/ your agency. Certification is good for one year.
STEP 1: Make sure you're on the screen that says, "Praed Foundation Collaborative Training Website (TCOM)" (top left):
STEP 2: Start from the person ("Learner") icon on the left. Click on "ePortfolio", identify your course, and "View certificate":
You could also go the "Analytics" route. Once you select "Analytics", click on "Certificates progress":
In the lower righthand corner, the most current certificate is available by clicking on “View certificate”.* Example:
STEP 3: Once you pass the exam and your certificate is within view, you can download it and share it w/ your agency (likely your program supervisor or training department). If you go to the certificate section and there is no certificate, it means you did not pass. That said, not to worry. You can always retest.
